Have questions about a wedding registry? We have the answers! In this article, we'll answer our most frequently asked questions. We'll cover the what, how, and why so you can confidently decide whether a Wedding Shop gift list is for you.
How Does a Wedding Registry Work?
If you're wondering what is a wedding registry, think of it as your own personal wishlist. Together with your partner, you pick the things you love, and your guests choose what to give you from that list. We'll then order and deliver your gifts straight to your door, making the gifting experience seamless for you and your guests. It's undoubtedly one of the most exciting part of your wedding planning.
A Wedding Shop gift list is a personal service that offers couples choice, flexibility and exceptional service. With over 30 years in the business, we have unrivalled experience helping couples create their dream gift list. Rest assured, we are here to help at every stage of your gift list journey!
How Do I Create a Wedding Gift List?
Creating a gift list with The Wedding Shop is simple and free of charge. You can either register online or at one of our showrooms. As soon as you register, you'll be assigned a Gift Guru (your dedicated gift advisor). They'll talk you through the service and recommend bespoke wedding gift ideas. You'll be able to start exploring and add gifts to your list straight away.
How Much Does It Cost To Have a Wedding Shop Gift List?
Creating a registry with us won't cost you a penny. You'll enjoy a hassle-free experience with incredible, free-of-charge personal service, dedicated appointments, and quick and easy setup. We also offer free storage for your gifts and two direct deliveries to couples on the day that suits you.
At The Wedding Shop, we aim to make your wedding experience fun and meaningful from the start and beyond the big day. As a valued couple, you'll gain exclusive access to perks from our wedding planning partners, including Papier stationery, Sophia Webster, Rewritten, and more. Plus, enjoy a 20% discount on any top-up wedding presents and a lifetime 10% discount on all your future homeware needs.
Guest orders are delivered directly to the couple and are free on gift orders over £75. A small delivery charge of £2.99 is applied on gift orders under that amount. A 1.9% fee also applies to guests who contribute money to cash or honeymoon funds. This fee simply covers our transaction and administration costs. For example, if a guest gives £100 to a cash fund, we will charge them £101.90, and you will receive the £100 gift. If your guests contribute to charity donations, they won't be charged this fee. We pay the transaction costs on charitable donations as a gesture of goodwill for their generosity towards a good cause.

Can We Add Items From Multiple Stores to Our Registry?
Yes! The Wedding Shop has over 450 homeware brands to explore, from well-known names to independent artisans. You can mix and match products with experiences and personalised cash funds.
If you can't find what you want from our brand partners, you can also add up to ten custom gifts from any UK retailer. To add a custom gift, go to your dashboard and select "Add gifts to your list". Enter the product URL, and we'll review it within three business days to confirm eligibility.
Is It Possible To Customise Our Registry To Match Our Wedding Theme?
Yes, absolutely. Matching your gift list to your wedding theme is a great way to add coherency and personality.
Upload a profile picture, change your background image, and welcome your guests with a personal message. You can even add notes to things like honeymoon funds to let guests know what they're contributing towards. Or play with the order of your gifts to highlight your favourites first. Your registry, your rules.
What Types of Gifts Should We Include on Our Registry?
The world is your oyster! From traditional wedding gifts pots and pans to the more adventurous scuba-diving experiences, curate a gift list that mirrors you. This is the time to let your imagination run wild and invite your guests to be a part of your new journey together.
When you register with The Wedding Shop, you'll have access to your dashboard, where you'll find personalised recommendations. Explore helpful tools like price recommendations and product categories. As you add gifts to your list, we'll automatically tick them off.

Wedding guests love gift lists. It's the perfect way to ensure they choose presents you'll both love. The easiest way to share your gift list is to mention it on your formal wedding invitations.— we put together a handy guide to wedding gift wording that will help you to politely ask guests for wedding presents or cash.
Your wedding guests can then visit The Wedding Shop online and search for your registry using your name or event details. Once they've found your list, they can browse and purchase the gifts you've chosen with just a few clicks. Guests can also leave a personal message at checkout, and we'll send them a confirmation email. We've designed the process to be as seamless and joyful as possible for you and your guests.
Top Tip: When it comes to when to start your wedding registry, we suggest beginning early so you can have it ready when sending out your invites, approximately ten to twelve weeks before your wedding day.
Can We Update Our Registry After It’s Been Created?
Absolutely! Life changes, and so can your gift list. You can swap, update, and tweak your registry as much as you like before you place an order.
Please kindly note, that couples who have selected Order on Pledge, a gift list option that trades flexibility for faster delivery, are excluded from this offer. With Order on Pledge, we automatically order and store each gift in our warehouse until you're ready to receive it.
Can We Include Non-Traditional Items Like Experiences or Cash Funds?
Of course! The Wedding Shop prioritises flexibility. Build your dream registry by mixing and matching products with experiences and cash funds. We partner with amazing travel brands, from Airbnb to Mr & Mrs Smith, to bring you unique wedding gifts like boutique hotels, homestays, and cultural experiences.
You can also build a bespoke cash fund so your guests can contribute towards things like a home renovation, honeymoon fund, or anything else you can imagine!
Is There a Limit to the Number of Items We Can Add to Our Registry?
Not at all. We recommend adding a variety of gifts from different price brackets. The more choice you give your guests, the better! Here are some tips for creating a well-rounded wedding registry:
- Include a mix of big and small items. This will give your guests a variety of options to choose from, regardless of their budget.
- If you're using your gift list to upgrade your home, choose gifts from different categories, such as kitchen, dining, bedroom, and bath. This will help you to get everything you need to start your new home together.
- Don't forget to register for some fun and unique items as well. This could include anything from a new grill to a set of luggage for your honeymoon.
